HISTORY

Thrive Academy was founded in 2011 by former teacher Sarah Broome following the death of a student at her school. After being granted a charter by East Baton Rouge Parish, Thrive opened with a class of 20 sixth graders in 2012.

During the first year, students saw incredible academic gains, moving from an incoming SPS of 19.6 to a 76.9 in a single year. The second year saw further growth to an 87.5—making Thrive one of the highest performing schools in Baton Rouge. Thrive continued to grow and currently has 180 students in grades 6-12.

In 2015, Thrive broke ground on a permanent campus at 2585 Brightside Drive. Construction on the first dorm was completed in August of 2016 and students moved in that month.

In 2016, recognizing the tremendous work of Thrive Academy, the Louisiana Legislature passed HB 887 creating Thrive as a legislatively authorized school. The legislation was signed into Act 672 by Governor John Bel Edwards in June of 2016 and took effect July 1st, 2017.

We create a space that eliminates the obstacles so students can achieve what the world thought was impossible.

At Thrive Academy, we revolutionize education by giving students a chance to overcome their obstacles and become the best version of themselves. By blending school and home, we create a continuum of learning that allows graduates to become multi-faceted citizens who thrive in all aspects of life. We measure our success not by the number of students who walk across the stage on graduation day, but by how prepared they are to be successful the day after

In Tribute to Founder

Today I will slay a giant, Ms. Broome said to herself.

Inspired through tragedy to begin a work that could not be left to anyone else.

A pioneer of historic proportions.

She established a home away from home.

For children then, for children now.

For many children yet to come.

Today, I will slay a giant, Ms.Broome exclaimed.

Clearing the path for a sustainable future.

Thrive Academy is here to stay.

Forever we will honor, Ms.Broome.

Who passed the baton to us in faith.

We will continue to slay giants.

Products of her legacy, unafraid.
