Residential Mentor (Part Time)

After School Shift (29 hours/week)

- Sunday: 3:30pm-12:30am

- Monday – Thursday: 3:30pm-8:30pm

- NO Saturday or Sunday shifts

Swing Shift (25 hours per week)

- Sunday: 3:30pmm-12:30am

- Monday – Thursday: 8:30pm-12:30am

- NO Saturday or Sunday shifts

There may be a modified schedule or substitute mentor positions as needed

Rate of Pay:

$16 per hour

- School support staff stipends as granted

Responsibilities

Mentoring is a very important component of the student experience at Thrive Academy. Mentors actively engage with students each day to ensure their safety and enrichment. Mentors forge meaningful relationships with students to help support their success while at Thrive Academy. The following are the high-level responsibilities associated with being a mentor*.

  • Directly and actively supervise 10-14 students in the boarding program (grades 7-12)

  • Help support student growth mentally, academically, and socially

  • Keenly monitor and track student behavior on campus and at offsite activities

  • Create and implement engaging and meaningful activities to enrich and bond students

  • Set a positive example by being a role model for students in the program

  • Support students in the completion of chores, meeting dress code requirements, etc.

Qualifications

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent

  • Strong communication skills

  • Enthusiasm and patience for working with middle and high school age students

  • Willingness to work hard and with fidelity

  • Organized

  • Able to utilize smart phone and associated technology

  • Valid driver’s license and excellent driving record (if applicable with driving responsibilities)

  • Knowledge of or a background in working with at-risk children and youth

  • Willing to submit to a criminal background screen with appropriate results

Physical Demands

  • Communicate with students through talking and listening

  • Sitting, standing, lifting, bending, walking, and running to facilitate exercise and play games with students, as well as demonstrate and assist with their chores (e.g. sweeping, mopping, dishes)

  • Lifting/carrying up to 10lbs to assist students with bags, projects, and the like

  • Driving small passenger vans (if applicable with driving responsibilities)

Work Environment

The work environment will vary from potentially loud situations such as cafeterias, athletic events, and outdoor spaces to more quiet dormitory rooms. Light travel is involved for athletics and other student events to places such as other schools, movies, escape rooms and other entertainment venues suitable for adolescent youths. May spend time both indoors and outdoors, sometimes in hot, cold, and/or rainy weather conditions.
